Just caught up in life, I suppose.

Life has been kind of hectic, but I think that mostly I had been spending far too much time online and not enough time on life.

Cool news. I'm going to be a Sister!
I auditioned for our community theater 2 weeks ago. Last night the director called and I have been casted in Nunsense. I really can't wait and am so looking forward to having something to do other than being a mom or church activities. I can't wait to make some new relationships and have challenge of learning my roles (one role is cooperative, and I'm understudy for another role).

We're doing some work on our house and that is going to take a lot of patience and money. We have new windows on order and I can't wait until we can easily open all of the windows in our house and I'll be able to clean them! Right now there are so many cobwebs inbetween the window and storms that they just look nasty. I'll also have a brand new carport to park under! No more leaks, or icicles hanging down in the winter. The contractor is also going to take down my shutters and some ironwork so they can be sanded, painted and reattached. My house will really look great when it's all done.

Yesterday dh and I did a 20 minute makeover in our diningroom. I picked up some bargain prints and we hung some drapes that have been packed away over the window. I can't believe how such a small change made the room feel so different.

Still no van

I called the shop this morning and said I would need my van by 5 tonight. At 3:00 they said it would not be done by 5, but tomorrow morning. I can live with that, I just hated to be put off like they were doing. This garage has an independant person do followup phone surveys after service is done, so I will be sure to let them know how I feel. They do quality work and we've used them for years, but come on, 7 days!

I'm working on reorganizing my scrapbooking space. I've gotten my paper reorganized and am working on cleaning up the mess on the office floor. Good grief am I ever a slob at times. At least once it's all done, I can work. I am going to put up some shelves over my work table and may buy a bigger table. That will help alleviate the mess on the table and I'll have more room.

Crochet-wise I've been making adorable sock trims for my girls. Buttons, beads, and scallops. I just have to find a project for ds that's not girly. Poor guy.

Well, my van has been in the shop for a week now. They did give me a loaner to use (thankfully) so I have some transportation. It should be done by tomorrow, they say, let's hope so.

We're starting a new book study at church called The Bondage Breaker. It sounds interesting. I'm heading up a service project at church for www.anysolider.com, we're adopting a unit and planning a huge care package.

Not much time to add anything else. I'm working on a few projects and just finished a surprise one last night while watching the Oscars.

Oh My Goodness!

There are some wonderful, generous people in the world! I am part of the Wish List at Crochetville. I'd gotten something early on in the exchange, but nothing recently. DH brought in the mail this morning (my mail never comes before 3pm, we must have a sub) and sets a box on the diningroom table. I opened it up and almost cried. This is what I found:

A set of Denise Interchangeable Knitting Needles which I've longed for at least 6 months. Three skeins of Sox yarn in cool colors, and two new Walk Away the Pounds DVD's (yea, new workouts!!!!!) with stretchy bands. I still can't believe the generousity of this anonymous Fairy Godmother.

Last week I got my hat from the hat swap. It's so cute. Made of of blue and black boucle, the hat is reversable and is constructed like a double knit hat. And there is a matching scarf! Too cute and the blue matches my blue winter coat, while the black matches my black wool dress coat. It's nice and warm for cold days.

I must issue an apology

After yesterday's vent, the writer who disagreed with me did apologize and felt terrible that her post had hurt me. We communicated via email with apologies on both ends (that board has been weird lately and I think it has been getting to me). I still belief that Mel Gibson was free to express his views (and I believe he did a fabulous job with the movie) even if I don't fully agree with his views (ie: he said to Diane Sawyer that only Catholics will be in heaven; I believe that Jesus came to bring salvation to all who will receive it).

Not much on the crochet front. I've got nothing done today. Instead, I spent the morning at the dentist trying to get a chip in my tooth smoothed out. It seems my overbite puts a lot of pressure on my bottom front teeth and this is my second chip in 5 months. At my checkup next month he said he can build the tooth up with some resin so it doesn't have the obvious dip it has right now. *sigh* And I thought I had good teeth.

Ugh. I'm part of an online scrapbooking community and today the topic of Oscar nominations came up. When discussing Mel Gibson's Passion of the Christ someone made the comment that you shouldn't make your beliefs known unless you are asked first (paraphrased). She felt that Gibson pushed his beliefs on others. Well, he made a movie, he did not force people to see it. Isn't that part of America? Micheal Moore made his movie about his political beliefs: same thing, he didn't force people to see it. Like it or hate it, many movies made are made to express the director/writer's views. Anyway, it made me feel like I should just move to a commune and keep any and all opinions/beliefs to myself. Sheesh!

On other fronts: it looks like the toilet will need to be replaced. What a pain. So, as soon as I get the W2's from J's employers and do the taxes on TurboTax, efile and get the refund, we'll be off to Lowe's! Such excitement!

Too many projects in progress

In my usual practice of trying to do too many things at once, I can't tell you how many projects I have going right now. Let's just say it's too many for me to keep track of, but I have simple mind. lol. My swap hat is almost finished, just a couple of rounds left.

I did start a scrap afghan using my acquired and leftover yarns. This thing is going to be huge! It's at least 5 feet wide and so far it's about 16" long. It's all double crocheted stripes. I started with my browns, I took the darkest shade and went to the lightest I have. After I finished the browns, I did sc stripes in the same order with the browns, then a dc row of cream. Now, I'm working with the reds. Next I'll do blues, then greens. I really don't know how long it will be, but it will be great for snuggling on the couch because it is as wide as the couch!

Today, J spent part of the afternoon fixing the toilet in our half-bath. The turn off valve had sprung a leak and needed replacing. In typical J fashion, once he removed the toilet he found the valve he had bought was the wrong size and he needed a new flange for the toilet drain. So, back to Lowe's. Now, the water in the whole house was turned off for this period of time. Not good with a family of 6. We all know that children get incredibly thirsty when water is not available and then they have to pee. Fun, fun. But I now have a toilet with a brand new seat, new inner workings and and no longer dribbles into the bowl from the tank between flushings. But, I did notice a slight pool of water on the floor after J left for a meeting at the church, so *hopefully* that can be easily fixed.

My ds has been sick. At Thanksgiving he was diagnosed with bronchitis. We took him back to the dr. at the end of Christmas break because he still had a cough, so he started his second round of antibiotics; a chest xray showed no pneumonia. Fast forward to today because he STILL has a cough and he's been given albuterol to see if it will work. If not better in 2 weeks he will see a specialist. Now, I have wondered if ds has a mild case of asthma, he gets winded when overly active and will then cough for a while; this has been going on for several years. There is family history of asthma on my side, so this very well could be. I'm just glad I breastfed my kids for so long to hold off development of problems like this (my younger brother had it so bad as a child that he had many late night ER visits--of course, Mom smoked back then and after she quit, so did the ER trips).

Hats, afghans and yarn galore!

I've been working on a hat swap at Crochetville and almost have my person's hat finished. I've not told her who has her name yet, so I hope she doesn't think she's overlooked. I'd better finish it quickly! I have finished one charity hat for said swap and need to mail that off after I wash it.

I've been working on dd's afghan. It's RH SS Lavender, Monet and yellow. Kind of hard on the eyes, but SO dd! LOL. I am also going to start on a scrap type afghan to use of my tons of balls of acquired yarn. Lots of browns, reds, greens and blues. Hmmm, still not sure exactly how I'm going to do it yet, but I have a few ideas.

I got blessed by a fairy godmother from Crochetville. I was sent some handmade shea butter body cream and it's lavender scented. So yummy! I also got send a GMail invite, now I can see what all the hub-bub is about.

Okay, so it's been a couple of weeks since I've blogged. Shoot me, beat me, whip me with a wet noodle and make me write bad checks. Well, the last thing didn't need to be forced upon me, dh made a boo-boo in the checkbook register and we caught it in the last second to arrange for funds to cover the checking account. Just barely saved ourselves some major ISF charges!

The Christmas gifts that I made seemed to be well received. Not sure if I've make much next year or not. I didn't get any knit or crochet Christmas gifts, but I did get some cold, hard cash, so I'll be finding a way to spend that for sure!

Today, from a Crochetville Fairy Godmother, I got a wonderful jar of handmade shea butter body cream. It's so yummy. Lavender scented. It will not last long! Thank You!

I'm working on a few things. I just finished a couple of preemie hats. My best friend's sister had twins at 31weeks two weeks ago. They were big for being that early and are doing well. Hopefully they can go home soon.

I've gotten 6 scrapbook LO's finished so far this year. My monthly goal is 10 LO's per month. We'll see how well I do.

Four Days Til Christmas!!!

The shopping is done! Hooray. The presents are nearly all wrapped. Hooray! The kids have 1 1/2 days left of school! Ah, some days to sleep in will be wonderful.

I woke up this morning with a terrible ache in my back. I do not know why, except maybe the clunky shoes I wore yesterday, but I had to so dh could see me from the piano when I was directing the choir. BTW, the choir did a very good job, I was proud of them and their hard work. If only my back would feel better! I even took some Darvacet because Aleve did nothing to dull the pain. J even told me to order supper in since standing at the stove to cook was not doable for me. I won't even tell you how many loads of laundry I need to fold--but at least it's clean! I may take another Darvacet, soak in a hot tub and go to bed now.

No needlework today, once in a chair I didn't move!

We've been very busy getting ready for Christmas. Last night was a Christmas party for the administration and office staff at dh's school. We had a nice time, even if we were the only ones not drinking. The all faculty party is Tuesday, we plan to go for a bit and then go out alone as long as we have a babysitter lined up.

Except for some stocking stuffers the Christmas shopping is done! We'll get everything all wrapped up before Christmas morning and put under the tree. Several people are getting handmade gifts from us, but I didn't over-extend myself, yea me!

Tomorrow I am directing the Christmas cantada at the church. I'll be glad to be done, but it has been a good experience over all. Yet, I doubt I'll do it again; many people have a serious lack of commitment.

Happy Thanksgiving!!!

Happy Thanksgiving. Last night I learned that it is a good thing I married a man who makes a terrific pie crust, because I make a terrible crust! Jim was tired after a day at St. Luke's in Kansas City, so I decided to make my own crust for our pumpkin pie. BIG mistake. I ended up tossing the first ball of dough I rolled out, the second was passable but not great. At least I make a great turkey! We had a nice quiet day at home with NO company for a change. This evening we walked downtown for a small fireworks display sponsored by the downtown hotel. THe 3yo dd cried from the noise, but the other three loved it.

"Mommy, will you wipe my butt?" I'm so tired of hearing that. My 5yo just can't seem to wipe her own stinkin' bottom! We have told her she can't go to kindergarten in the fall if she doesn't wipe herself, but it's not a motivator for her. Blech.

I'm working on knitting a scarf for Christmas, and need to make my 3yo a poncho. I just can't find a look that I like whenever I start with a different yarn! I did buy some WoolEase at JoAnn's on Wednesday and a ball of Divine. I think the Divine will become a Christmas gift, not sure about the WoolEase.

Sunday, the day of rest (I think)

Well, I missed out on church this morning since our eldest still has blisters from the chicken pox. I did get some knitting done on my poncho, it's now about 75% done. I made my Dijon Ham and Cheese meal in a loaf at dh's request. Turned out well and 3 out of 4 kids ate it! Success!

I may try to make a few hats to give kids as Christmas gifts, at least they go quickly. I may need to make a trip to Hobby Lobby or Michaels (both about an hour away, which stinks) for more yarns. Oh, well. I'm also letting my kids drink a bunch of KoolAid Jammers to make those too cute purses out of the pouches for the teen step-neices.

Hats, Hats, Hats

I've finished some hats for the kids, as well as some baby things for gifts/donation to the maternity home.

The green hats are all acrylic for the girls. The one has a stip of eyelash for my wild girl). The black/red hat is Encore with 20% wool for ds; he picked the yarns to match his new winter coat.

The baby afghan and hat are for the local maternity home. And the lavender hat is a gift.

Chicken Pox is in the house!

Well, all four kids have the chicken pox. It makes for a miserable week, but at least it will only be one week instead of dragging it out for a month or more. G is broken out the worst and is upset aboutnot being able to make sales for his Cub Scout popcorn sale. If you're interested in buying popcorn on line and having it shipped directly to you, let me know.

Last week, G-Boy had his ENT followup in Kansas City. After the appt I had plenty of time to stop off and look at yarn and G-boy wanted a new hat to match his new winter coat. I had no clue as to where the LYS was in Independence, so I called a friend and asked her to look it up for me (she probably thought I was crazy). With my trusty map and the address in hand I found the LYS and got a taste of yarn heaven. DS picked out yarn for his new hat and I got to pick out some cotton chenille for face cloths (of course, deciding who shall get those face cloths will not be easy!).

I have actually gotten some needlework done. I've made some cute hats, finished a baby afghan and am working on more hats for the kids. My friend (the same one who found me the address of the LYS) has asked if I'd make matching hats for her twin nephews that are due in a couple of months. Can't say no to baby hats! I'll publish photos of my FO's soon, we'll see how well the kids cooperate since they're ill.

I got a lovely package from my Crochetville Secret Pal. A crocheted keyring, a too-cute fish tote bag that is seeing use already, and a cute little note holder. I hope my secret pal has gotten her final package.

Fall is really here

We had to run the heat pump at night some last week. It's getting down to 40 or lower, so fall is finally here. DS is back to school after his surgery (yea!). The mother of the girl I made the last poncho for told me not to be surprised if people ask her where she got it and commission ponchos soon; it was a hit with the other girls at her private school.

Nothing much else going on craft-wise, I've been too busy to work on much. In fact, right now, I'm looking over a book on leading Women's Ministry and considering taking that position at church. Our ladie's group has floundered a bit and I'd love to get it revived. The church is growing and we have younger women, women who are new to the area, etc. that really need a place to make friendships. (sigh) Why does God give you a desire when you feel harried from the things you are already doing?

Let's see. I finished a crochet poncho for dd's friend today, should be able to give it to her mother tomorrow night when I see her. I'm working on finishing a raised triangles knit dishcloth, maybe I'll send it to my secret pal. My knit Homespun poncho is only about 1/3 done, I'd better get to working on it; I had planned to take it to the hospital when ds had his tonsils out, but left home without any knit or crochet (made for a long day). Anyone have quick Christmas ideas? I went through the yarn I snagged from my mom when I unpacked her into her new home and I have several shades of white; I'm wondering if I could use them together somehow?????

I have a ribbed knit scarf almost finished for dh. He wants fringe, so after a few more inches I can add that and it's finished. I picked up some pretty red WoolEase on sale, it has colored flecsk in it, maybe that will become a christmas scarf for someone.

As if I don't have enough craft projects going, I decided that since all the dresses we've found in the stores for my 7yo dd look like they are from Tramps R Us, I purchased patterns and fabric to make her some dresses for winter. She's always been the 'girly girl' in the family and is complaining about not having dresses to wear this winter. I need to make some new pj's for the girls as well.

Mom is back in the hospital. Her stomach is again acting up and they believe she has an infection in her blood. Not sure what that could mean. She does need to have her old gastric bypass redone, but I think they have to wait until her blood is normal.

I got a package from my Crochetville Secret Pal. I do hope she is doing okay as her hometown was really ravaged by Frances (yes, I peeked at the return addy). I'm praying you are safe and with your loved ones. I can't find the picture I took of my goodies, so I'll have to take another one. But I got four skeins of Simply Soft yarn, a photo album and a postcard from her tropical paradise (I'm so jealous, I want to go there one day!). THANKS SECRET PAL!

Ponchos Galore!

I've been making ponchos like crazy. First it started with one for my 6yo dd, I worked on it while waiting in airports and while flying a couple of weeks ago. Then she wanted me to make one for her friend's birthday. Now her best friend requested one and I had to make one for my 4yo dd. Then, dd asked me to make another one for a birthday present. Three down, two to go and I still don't have one for myself!

Oh my, It's September!

I've been busy like crazy. Last month my mom got very sick and I had to make an unexpected trip to Wisconsin for a week. Today I'm getting ready to fly up there for my cousin's wedding (I'm avoiding my To Do list right now).

Yarn-wise I'm working on a baby afghan to give to Birthrite for their layettes. I also have a knit one in progress. My knit shawl still has a long ways to go; I'm beginning to wonder if I have enough yarn to make it big enough and if I'll have to frog it and crochet something with a large hook instead (oh, all those wasted hours!). I'm almost done with dh's wool scarf, it is looking very good and he wants it fringed, too; using Paton's Classic Wool and it's soft.

I sent my Crochet Secret Pal a package and accidently came across her weblog, so that was fun. Now I need a creative idea for her next package. She seems like she can use cheering up.

School has started and dh has a great new position. After teaching for 12 years he is now a Special Services Process Coordinator. Big pay raise (yea!!!!) . He is really enjoying the new job, even though it means constant running.

Gotta run and clean out my van, get dd's carseat ready for dh to put in his van, put my bags in the van, and finish some housework in 1.5 hours!!!! ARGH!

No Neeldlework for me for a bit

Saturday night my right thumb started hurting. I'm not totally sure of the cause but I think I may have tendonitis. I made the dumb mistake of knitting during the church business meeting last night (ibuprofen made it feel too good) and it was really hurting after that. So I'm on a self-imposed break from all needlework for two weeks. We'll see if that doesn't do the job and let things heal up.

On other fronts: our hot water heater is acting. I had a tepid shower this morning with the dial set all the way to hot (which I never do since I don't like hot, hot showers). J went down to check the water heater and the pilot light won't stay lit. Trying to get a call into the plumber to see if they can fix it; it's only four years old, so this is irritating.

Cooler weather, FINALLY

It's been lovely here since Friday. Temps in the 70's, so the kids can play outside and I can turn off the a/c! Love that.

Finished dd's toddler afghan. Not as long as I'd originally wanted it, but it's done! Started a crochet afghan for my 4yo dd. She wanted yellow and purple (also red, green and who knows what other colors), so it's yellow, purple and RH Monet. Very colorful, but so is dd.

DH put up paintable wallpaper in our bedroom. It had striped wallpaper and I was tired of feeling like I was in jail. Now it's a cool sage green and since he tore out the built in shelves and we can place the bed on the main wall it's so much bigger. I love it.

We went to South Dakota to visit the IL's for vacation. While there three of the kids came down with Roseola; the other had it before we left, but we didn't know it. Had a nice time visiting family, but J and I both gained weight. I need to get back to my WW program.

We took G & A to DeSmet to see the Laura Ingalls stuff there. It was fun and we got to see the house that Charles Ingalls built for the family in town, their final home. Interesting to see knit and crochet pieces done by the women of the family. Even learned that Rose Wilder Lane edited a book on needlework.

The toddler afghan is nearly done, only about 6" or so until it's the length I'd like. The shawl has a lot of work to do, I still have three balls of yarn. I may need to splurge and buy the Denise Interchangeable needles just so I can have a circular long enough to hold it all; if I make it to my height it will be 64".

Am working on some dishcloths since my mom is moving soon as a gift. Able to knit while my 9yo is at swimming lessons.

I took my measurements today and I am down another 5.75 inches for a total of 13.75"! Since the scale isn't moving much it's very reassuring to keep track of my measurements.

Let's see, spent last weekend in Atlanta with my brother and his wife. Had a lot of fun. I finished a baby afghan for a baby shower, with one week's notice. Now I'm working on an afghan for a neighbor who's baby came this week. The toddler-ghan has not been worked on due to the baby afghans, but I'm hoping to get it finished while we visit J's family; there's not much else to do in SD.

Just our nine year old is sick now, he's got a stomach virus...poor kid.

WW: weighed in and am down another pound. I have been diligent about working out daily. Taped a cardio-kickboxing workout off of FitTV and it's one heck of a workout. I sweat for 20 minutes after my shower!

My two year old's afghan is coming along well. It's 22" long and I think I'll keep going until it's about 40" to give her good coverage. I included a close up of the pattern. It's easy knitting and I don't have to count stitches!

I have received most of my squares for the masculine swap, only 9 left to come. I may put it together for ds because I've not made him an afghan yet.

Not a good reason to get a lot of knitting done....

Yesterday afternoon J kept getting worse, so I called the on-call doc and was told to take him to the ER. He was dehydrated to the point his kidneys were causing him back pain. They gave him saline, pain meds, and IV antibiotics, after three and a half hours I brought him home. I must have gotten a good 6 inches of knitting done on dd's afghan while at the hospital and it measures 13" long now.

For WW progress: I measured myself and since 4/10 I'm down 6.75". I have been working out at least 4 days a week using either the Walk Away the Pounds 2 mile DVD or The Firm (ouch).

J is not recovering well from his strep. He started meds on Friday and still has a fever, throat is very sore and he's a typical man (big baby). All three girls have fevers, so it's just G and I that are not sick. Couldn't make it to church, so they had to fill my teaching spot for Sunday School and we have no idea who (or if) they found to play piano.

Okay, finally figured out how to get my pictures to show up. I have several more rows on the lavender toddler-ghan for my 2yo done. The heart HAM was made for my 6yo in hopes she would give up her 'lovey' from her baby days to help her stop thumb-sucking (I think she's finally stopped, which is good since she just lost her first tooth).

The blanket for dd is progressing nicely. I got two more pattern repeats finished since I took this picture, I'm liking the pattern and it's mindless. Ok, can't post the photo since bloggerbot is down right now, will try later.

Tonight J and I are supposed to go out for our anniversary, which is tomorrow. But he's up at the doctor now because he thinks he's got Strep again. Yuck. Plans may have to change (isn't that like us?). Right now the Scott Joplin Ragtime festival is going on here and since we are close to downtown all of the tourists have to park in front of my house (lucky me).

Well, dh (J) is beginning ESY (Special education extended school year). It seems as though he is going to be passed over for the Process Coordinator position, mainly due to the fact that the Director of SpEd has no clue as to what she's doing. All of the other process coordinators want J in the position but this stupid woman is dragging her feet. But, J found out the Group Home that he used to be the 'Q' for inquired if he'd like the job back. He called and today takes his CPR class, that just leaves First Aid and he's set for working alone with the guys again. The pay is even better than the raise would be for the coordinator position and it's stress-free. Now, watch him get offered the process coordinator job!

I started a blanket for my 2yo's bed. Started on size 7 needles, but the weave was too tight. Instead of starting over, I worked in onto size 9 needles after two repeats of the pattern; I'll just do two repeats at the end back on the 7's. I think I'll just use the lavender baby yarn and keep it solid; I've got plenty of lavender. I'll post a photo tomorrow.

I weighed in at WW last night and am down another 1.2lbs. So far 15 pounds lost.

I finished all of my squares last night and they are ready to mail. I actually found a little time already today to work on my garter stitch shawl. It's probably only 1/4 finished, it's going to take some time.

Okay, time to touch on the WW part of my blog. I've been doing pretty good getting in my workouts this last week. On Saturday I did the Firm AB Sculpt and a 2 Mile Walk Away the Pounds, then J and I did yard work. I ached on Sunday!
Today I did the lower body section of the Firm Body Sculpt and laid down on the floor for half an hour not able to move, ouch! I'll do a 2 Mile WATP tonight.

Oh, only one square left to make for my Masculine Square swap. Weave in some ends, package those puppies and they'll be off in the mail.

Let's see, we went to church this morning, came home to a crock pot roast, ate, and then the tornado sirens went off. It's the biggest dislike I have for Missouri. Fortunately we were only stuck in the nasty, icky cellar for 45 minutes with the storm bypassing our city.

I have only two and a half sqares left to complete for the masculine square swap before Tuesday. When I'm done with them I want to make myself a pair of flip flops embellished with Fun Fir. I made a pair for 6yo DD, but the Fun Fir was too 'tickly' for her, so I took it off. I also want to knit a lightweight summer blanket out of sportweight yarn for my 2yo DD; she's still in a toddler bed so it's hard to find a small blanket for her. I found an easy patter of Row 1: knit, Row 2: knit2together, Row 3: knit into front and back, Row 4: purl. I think it'll be quick and easy.
